Head hunters of Nagaland

Longwa, a village situated in the Mon district of Nagaland is a home to the fierce Konyak Tribe. The Konyaks are known for their culture of taking heads while at war. They believed that taking a head of someone from the opposing tribe was equivalent to taking their spirits away. The last hunt said to have happened in 1993. Now the village is filled with old headhunters, who still have fierce attitudes under those fragile bodies. They speak about their traditions and culture with pride and nostalgia. They fear that as the years go by no one will remember them and their culture, however they themselves have adapted to the modern times. Years ago a missionary came to Longwa and asked the locals to believe in Christianity. Earlier they were hesitant but when they heard the prayers and read the bible one by one they all started following Christianity. It is one of the main reasons why they stopped headhunting.
